Hyper Hearts 2024 - Inga Huld Hákonardóttir

Hyper Hearts is a punk-inspired dance, a sung, spoken and death-screamed ritual which expresses an urgency for a place of silence today. An urgency in response to a current ambient of chaos, noise, and toxic hyperactivity. In an intense and physical meditation on silence, we define and redefine silence through text, sounds and dance movement qualities, both intense as well as minimal and refined. We reflect on a desire for silence by moving through its opposite: noise.

Silence represents the necessity of a blank page, a necessary contrast to constant signals without ends, compulsive obsessions with renewal and a destructive relationship to productivity. It also represents a space to reconnect with the physical world, to feel and sense things deeply and fully. We propose a reclaiming of physical and spiritual elements, that are now dulled and at a potential risk of getting lost in online noise and signals that have no end. Can we still make our way home without the help of Google maps?

Contrasting elements of intensity and subtlety propose a re-awakening of the sleeping parts of ourselves, the qualities that are perhaps fading in the face of hyperreal confusion, the confusion between the artificial and real. We intensify the physical with highly energetic danced movements borrowed from the moshpit, we place our bodies in complex relations with objects to verify that they are real. We search for actions that confirm the fact that we are alive, not merely simulations in a hyperreal confusion.
