- Dance - Soloheroïne (2004)
Arco RenzA beautiful, but anonymous body. The back turned to us she does not have a face, even as her features slowly emerge from the darkness. Her physical freedom is indeed limited to a point in space that she never leaves. She stands on, traveling through resistances and the limitations of time and space, striving to set herself free from her very own impeccable, but cold image – and to be alive.
heroïne is a sensual reflection on perception and appearance, meditation and interference, stillness and movement. It places a body on the uncertain ground between the real and the virtual and investigates our modes of perception.
Taiwanese performer Su Wen-Chi and Arco Renz create this solo around one of the fundamental differences between Eastern and Western cultures reflected in the performing arts: the notion of vertical time and vertical space in the East as opposed to horizontal time and horizontal space in the West.
