Ruth Becquart & Kyoko ScholiersFor one year, Ruth Becquart and Kyoko Scholiers started a hand-written correspondence with people from all over the globe. They posted letters to artists, psychiatrists, their own fathers and taxi drivers, even politicians and prostitutes… Now they are travelling with LETTER, an installation that presents an aural archive containing the most particular intimate moments in the letters. A highly personal and intimate experience, shared by six people at a time.
On an unusually slow moving merry-go-round, six people sit down at a private writing table. Not to write, but to listen to a unique listening excerpt that is contained in every table. They are being confined words, fragments from hand-written conversations stretching over a full year. Conversations with people from all around the globe. They all seem to share the same major concern, common anxieties, a huge longing and a constant search of a little happiness.
The merry-go-round never stops. People get on and off this spinning world Grow up and fade, sow and reap, ebb and flood, up and down, the journey out to warmer places and back again. Like a primeval force, the merry-go-round goes on spinning endlessly.
